Waves on doors

EFFECT: MDF 3D panels on hidden doors

DESIGN: Theodora Van De Pol International Ltd

The client was looking for contemporary additions to their newly refurbished home, the idea was to create a feature on a hallway area with hidden doors. We used MDF 3D panels on the walls and doors to create a seamless wavy feature wall which perfectly complemented their surroundings.

Requirements: Interior designer Theodora Van De Pol was looking for a solution to a client project in a contemporary, upmarket house in North London. The brief involved discreetly disguising two doors on a basement corridor wall – one led to a spa, the other a TV room. Not only had the design to look attractive and fit in with the rest of the luxury interior, but the materials had to be tough and durable. The latter was due to the fact that the doors would be used regularly and there were children in the home.

Products: World famous blogger and interior designer – Theodora Van De Pol choose our 3D panels in a wave design. These were prepared on CNC machines from 2440x1220x18mm MDF 3D panels and then painted in a white oil-based gloss paint to give them a tough shell and an attractive shine. The hidden doors were fitted with Tectus SOS hinges and Powermatic Perko for a soft-close effect.

Results: The neutral colour scheme of the painted panels allowed them to fit in with the rest of the interior ie white Corian stairs and white floor tiles. The 3D wave design was textured and stunning enough to become the corridor’s stand-out feature. The panels fitted seamlessly and the only signs the handleless doors were present was a minuscule vertical line for each.
